Previous Markets: October 2007 Celebrating Light Over Darkness
Little Penang Street Market will be celebrating the coming of Deepavali along with YB Encik Subbaiyah a/l Palaniappan (KMN, PKT), Chairman of Health, Welfare and Caring Society Committee, Penang State Exco Office, the Hindu Sangam (Gelugor Branch) and the Temple of Fine Arts on the 28th of October at its Performance Space in the market.
A Mime Performance - "Can I Take A Picture With You?"
Performance Reading 'The Last Mystery' - Performance Reading by Lucille Dass and The Penang Players. This comedy thriller by Dominique Ruffet, a French playwright, will bring together some heroes from well known novels, such as Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple and James Bond. This play will follow these characters as they go around trying to solve a murder mystery...in heaven.
The reading will feature members of The Penang Players who will be garbed in representational costumes of the characters. Special Crafts from Kraftangan Malaysia (Perak Branch) Little Penang Street Market is proud to present its special tent featuring Kraftangan Perak. The Perak branch of Kraftangan Malaysia will be represented at the market by Rona Seramik (Glaze work), Intan collection ('Labu Sayong'), Lavender Ceramic (Glaze work) and Syarikat Mohd. Fuan Wong - hailed for being an "artist producing works of truly international standard", Fuan creates fused glass objects which have been featured across the globe such as the de Young Museum, San Francisco and Asia Society, New York. Fuan now has a permanent base in Penang, located on Armenian Street.
We will also be featuring Howard Tan, a superb Photographer and artist and a mystery artist - in keeping with our theme of mystery, come find out who this special one is... Featured Craft - Joan Lee Joan, an engineer by profession has carved out a niche for herself in the business of Origami Architecture. This young lady finds satisfaction in producing exquisite pop-up cards which she knows will go on to put a smile on any recipient's face.
Origami Architecture was started by Masahiro Chatani. Joan was introduced to this method of card making by her class teacher at the age of 12 and has been refining her craft since. She now sees it as an outlet for creativity. She
has produced custom orders for a souvenir shop in Langkawi and the
Singapore Armed Forces. More examples of her work can be viewed at

We have traditional Indian dancing, story-telling about Deepavali, a Mime and Physical Theatre performance, jazz by some young Penangites, poetry reading, an amazing Performance reading of a comedy-mystery play, and the wonderful voice and saxophone of Rozz and Jascha.
