Celebrating the eve of the Hokkien New Year Programme of the day

Arrival of YB Teng Chang Yeow, Penang state
Executive Councilor, Tourism Development and Environment Lion Dance and Drum Performance The Committee of the Little Penang Street market wishes to thank Master Mah Yook Seng and the Ching Xing Sports Cultural Centre for graciously giving us both the Lion dance and the Drum performance for free. This shows the true spirit of a cultural exchange which brings a Chinese New Year experience to Penangites of all races Kung Fu Performance The University Sains Malaysia Kung Fu club will be giving a Shaolin and Tai Chi Performance. The 10 young people will perform 2 sets and are then available for a Question and Answer session. They will also be giving hands-on tips and teaching the basic moves to those interested.
John Ong, a born and bred Penangite, will be conducting a Podcast on the Hokkien language. A Podcast is similar to a radio or television program but is transmitted through the internet. John says that being away from the country has made him appreciate the dialect even more. John has Mr Tan Choon Hoe, the author of the book Penang Hokkien Dialects as a guest. When asked if he had always been interested in becoming an artist, he smiles and says, 'I wanted to be a football star and had been chosen to represent my school. My father threatened to cut off my allowances as he wanted me to be an artist. I had won a number of art competitions in school'. He
first came into contact with the properties of clay when a young Japanese
woman began spending time at his family home. The wife of his father's
work colleague, she would bring with her clay specially brought over
from Japan, and make roses. At just 18, Chris learned the basics of
molding clay into flowers from her. He then proceeded to mould other
